REPLACING LOST TEETH
Missing teeth can have a major impact on appearance, ability to chew efficiently since our teeth play a major role in digestion hence affecting our overall health.
There are several ways to replace missing teeth.
The first is called a Fixed Bridge: replace missing teeth, help balance a normal bite, prevent over-eruption of opposing teeth, prevent drift and tilt of adjacent teeth, help the slow down of progression of gum disease. In a normal, healthy mouth, your teeth have a natural balance. Each upper tooth contacts the opposite lower tooth, allowing for a well articulate chewing function... Losing a tooth quickly destroys this balance. Drifting, shifting, decays, gum disease, jaw bone loss can occur when your tooth loses the support of the adjacent neighbor.
To prevent these problems, the best time to restore the missing tooth is a few months following an extraction. A fixed bridge is made of multiple crowns link together as one unit, and the fixed bridge is cemented over the prepared neighbor teeth.
The second alternative to replace missing teeth is a Removable Partial Denture. It is an appliance made with wire clasps that hug your adjacent teeth for retention and can be remove at all time.
The third alternative is a surgical implant therapy. The anchor for a dental implant must be surgically placed below the gum into the jaw bone. After the surgery, teeth cannot be attached immediately to the anchor. A three to six month wait is a must to allow bone tissue to grow around the implant for a strong support. A final crown will need to be placed on after the waiting period.
